I was feeling quite extravagant this year, and rather greedy, with another vacation ~ Australia. I may, looking back, have been escaping, running away or making up for lost time. Regardless, I could and I did. Mom and I took Chanel to Melbourne to visit my sister, who had emigrated years earlier, and her Australian husband. I had been Down Under when I was eighteen and had traveled from Canberra up to the Brisbane but this time, as soon as I touched the ground, knew I was in love. There was something very magical for me here, as if I was home. Margie and Paul live on a rolling, eucalyptus treed acreage and from there we went riding, wine tasting and exploring. We toured atmospheric little towns that I describe as being “Victorian Era-meets-the Wild West”, wineries in the Yarra Valley, the beautiful and youthful city of Melbourne and Brighton Beach. It was dry and sunny with an abundance of roses, kangaroos and gorgeous tropical birds as common as our seagulls. If I were to live elsewhere, this may be it…
