Treasures is my first photographic series (2014) and focuses on the beloved equine, which has been an integral part of my life since early childhood.
Growing up on a horse farm in British Columbia, I was inspired by my own experiences with horses, the works of prominent equine photographers such as Robert Vavra and the stories of Bucephalus (Alexander the Great) and The Black Stallion.
Now that I have children of my own, my desire is to capture the beauty and joy of children and their ponies and that magical bond that the equine seems to evoke in the human.
For this series I photographed my daughters, Chanel et Chloe, with three family members, Laredo the Sublime, Charming the Prince and Tiggy the Ridiculous.
Despite the challenges of shooting this series – weather conditions, cooperation of the horses (and preventing them from consuming too many treats) and of the children (and preventing them from consuming too many treats) – I am excited to share this work in progress, Treasures, with you.
“My treasures do not clink together or glitter; they gleam in the sun and neigh in the night.”
